Tonne of changes for Inglewood to claim finals berth

Inglewood has more chance than any other team to make it into the Bayleys premier league finals next week.

The club boasts three teams across two divisions in Thusday night’s semi-finals at the TSB Stadium.

In the premier one competition, both Inglewood teams – Summit and Aspiring – will play table toppers Tysons Toa and third place New Plymouth Old Boys (NPOB) respectively.

Premier three sees Inglewood playing Tukapa.

Inglewood netball coordinator Maree Schimanski said having three teams in the final series is another proud achievement for the club.

“It signifies the depth of our players and management throughout the teams and club,” she said.

Aspiring coach Tracey White said the club wanted to ensure having two premier one teams wasn’t just a one-off.

“A lot of preparation pre-season was done to ensure all the right people were in place to help achieve these goals.”   She said the goal was to make the semi-finals and finished the regular season in fourth place.

Aspiring moved up into premier one after winning last year’s premier two competition. They only won three matches but snuck into the semi-finals knocking out Stratford/Eltham.

Inglewood’s top team, Summit, finished in second.

Coach Erika Maifea said the two teams have been training together all season.

“We believe both teams have been displaying some good netball and skills,” she said.

“Moving into finals this weekend, will be helpful as we have learnt from the games that challenged us and made improvements.”

Defending champions Tysons Toa had an unbeaten record this year with only one draw against NPOB.

NPOB won six matches from their 10 games.

In premier two on Friday, Sacred Heart Girls’ College will play Tysons Korimako at 6:30pm and Naumai and Tukapa will fight for the other finals spot at 8pm. Both games are at the TSB Hub in Hawera.

The final premier three semi-final sees unbeaten Bell Block play New Plymouth Girls’ High School at the TSB Stadium on Thursday.
