Tysons admit mixed bag season

Tysons Toa captain Amber Ormond admits the team’s performance in the Bayleys premier netball league has been a mixed bag.

Despite being the only unbeaten team across the premier one competition after eight weeks, Ormond hopes the team can build consistency.

She hopes it can start on Thursday night where Tysons play Stratford/Eltham at the TET Stadium at 8pm.

“We’ve had some great games where for moments we have really shown potential but haven’t been able to do this consistently yet,” she said.

“So [we’re] hoping over the final few weeks we are able to do that.”

The only slip up this year came three weeks ago during the super round, where they drew to New Plymouth Old Boys.

The standards have been set for the remainder of the season, where Ormond wants to see better performances across the court.

But this season has been helped by having a solid base of experienced players and younger ones coming through.

“We have lots of new players in our team who have really stepped up and been working hard at training. Fortunately, we haven’t been too affected by Covid disruptions.”

Amelita Peters, Losalia Moeahu-Leota, Heidi Kahupukoro and Shahanna Mareikura are players performing well this season, she said.

“And to have Heidi (Kahupukoro) and Jess (Tuki) back provides a really solid foundation,”

But Ormond knows Stratford/Eltham are physical and dynamic team.

“They have been building for a few years now with some great key players. We will look to be disciplined and consolidate our own performance as we need to from here on it.”

Ormond is open about the team wanting to chase down an unprecedented eight titles in-a-row.

“We know everyone is out to stop this happening, but we are working hard on controlling our game and doing what we can to be successful.”

Stratford/Eltham coach Nina Brown said last week a top four finish is the team’s goal.

In other premier one matches, second placed Inglewood Summit play New Plymouth Old Boys, who are in third. Inglewood Aspiring play Raukura. Raukura is yet to record a win this season. Centre pass for both matches is at 8pm at the TSB Stadium.
